10-01-2024 10 Rangers meet at Busiek Wilderness Area State Park for a over
night Survival Campout.
A week before the event permits were secured for 2 campsites out in the woods.
These were about 500 to 700 feet from the parking lot along Woods Fork River.
The boys were instructed NOT TO CUT or chop live trees or to eat anything.
They were also told most survival situations there is little to no food found.
Shelter, Fire, Water and Food in that order! Special thanks to Rob Batchman for sharing these pictures.
Ozark has 3 FCF Members that are working on their FCF Wilderness Advancement.
One of the requirements is for the young bucks to have completed a Wilderness
Merit. So now you know the reason for this EVENT!
Weather forecast was no rain or wind. highs of 80 to a low of 42. Special thanks
to Del Wales, Joshua Pennekamp, Rob Batchman and Mark Jones for leading this
group!

The group left Ozark AOG just a bit before noon on Tuesday. Home School is a
great option for Ranger Events that happen during the week days. A quick trip to
Walmart with a short shopping list and we were at Busiek State Park parking lot.
With the resources in the trailer we covered

Foraging
The group did a lot of foraging; fishing catching crawdads. They discovered,
worms, corn, carrots, wild greens. I told them they were not to eat anything
they had found but to show it to me and soon and very soon we discovered all
kinds of things that got cooked in a tin can.
Shelter
The teens constructed a 12 foot tall teepee. We discussed shelters and debris
beds and showed pictures of them. Being in a place that has a no cutting green
we had to modify our plans a bit. I told the boys if we were doing this at our
Ranger campground we could have made some very nice shelters and debris beds.
This time it was only a 15 minute drive instead of 2 hour drive one way.
After a LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGG night and a low of 42 degrees we enjoyed the
sunrise and after cooking up some foraged cans of biscuits and honey cooked on
skewer sticks around the fire we cleaned up camp and went on a 2 mile day hike.
On the way back to Church we stopped for a post Survival meal at Wendy's.
We had a great time and it was soooooo good to get home! Click on a
