Retirement life is great!  Did a lot of research and kept coming back to something that works and has a proven track record of success!

The Dremel 3d45 does a excellent job at a higher price then most in home 3d printers. Yet it has a proven track record of great prints with no tweaking it to perform.   It just does what you send to it.   This printer is used in schools and has a easy web interface that is a quick process.  I can download over 2 million things on various websites most are free.  Then load them up in Tinker CAD (Free on  line CAD program that even kids can use) then I modify them to my tastes size, additions, subtractions, text or better ideas sometimes worse ideas!   Then export that to a file on my computer and then load them up in Dremel Cloud and after a few mouse clicks they are ready for slicing and printing.  (Slicing is just telling the computer from the plate up(ground level) what to print on that plane then after it's done it moves up to the next plane or slice and prints that on top of what it laid down on the slice or plane below it)  Don't worry the software handles it and does it very quickly.  At this time you determine the material you use and the density (called fill) and finish of it.  All kinds of plastics are available from cheap to costly.   I have mostly printed all of these in eco-abs a plastic that comes on a reel that looks like weed eater line.  I have better plastics like petg and nylon to print with that can be used for stuff like gears and hot locations.   So many plastics are coming out some with even carbon fiber in them that make them almost as strong as steel.

The extruder is what lays down the plastic.  I liken it to a hot melt glue gun nozzle.  Yet this thing can be so precise you can't see the grain in it.  It can also be rougher than a cob if you so desire.  Time is a factor.  Some of these prints took 10 hours. Most average a 3rd of that.  All depends on your finish and density.  Click on a picture for a larger view.
